William impresses Liverpool scouts
Congratulations to William Starkey from our U7 team who impressed the Liverpool Academy coaching staff during the recent soccer camp at our ground.
107 kids from all over West Cumbria attended the 3 day camp and William was one of three players who caught the eye and his development will now be monitored by the Liverpool scouting team.
At Whitehaven AFC we have a wide range of junior teams ageing from under 7s right up to under 16s. Each team trains at our 3rd generation field through the week.
Training times are as follows:
- Under 7s, Mondays 5pm till 6pm
- Under 8s, Wednesdays 5pm till 6pm
- Under 9s, Tuesdays 5pm till 6pm
- Under 10s, Tuesdays 5pm till 6pm
- Under 12s, Wednesdays 5pm till 6pm
- Under 14s, Thursdays 5pm till 6pm
- Under 16s, Thursdays 5pm till 6pm

Whitehaven AFC put a huge emphasis on developing youth and an initative brought in by Dave Moore when he was head of youth, to bring in kids at the age of 5 and give them 2 years coaching before they begin playing competitive football at Under 8 level appears to be paying off as the current Under 8 team ( who are the first to benefit from this initative ) are currently top of the league and the current Under 7 batch, if anything, look more forward than the previous group and big things will be expected from them next year. The next intake of 5 and 6 year-olds will come in around Sept 2008 and hopefully the successful trend will continue.
