Whitehaven AFC Around the Club

Currently we sit near the top of the NL2 with 18 points from the 8 games played and remain the only team in a very competitive league to be unbeaten which is very pleasing, unfortunately we are out of the F.A Cup and F.A Vase after defeats to Norton and Stockton and Runcorn Linnets respectively both games were great occasions for the club but on a positive note it means we can focus on the bread and butter of the league.

Daisy Hill provide our opposition in the FA Vase 1st qualifying round away from home.  They are a small village just outside Bolton, and play in the same League as our opponents from last year, Cheadle Town.  Let's hope for a better performance than we put up in that game as we seek to further our ambitions in the Vase.

Our reserves played in a see-saw game against St.Bees last Wednesday in the Tesco County League.  Leading 3-0, they conceded 4 goals before coming back to win 7-4.  New signing Andrew Rowntree scored twice and pushed his claims to be included in Saturday's game.

Many have noticed the drilling going on around the club.  Contrary to public opinion we are NOT seeking oil, but allowing the firm to test the subsoil around the ground to ascertain the depth of the ash and bedrock before the second phase of the proposed stadium development can proceed.  Results from the drilling are expected shortly.

The all weather facility continues to be attractive to users and community groups.  We hope to announce some exciting new developments in the near future which will involve other sports. Discussions are still on-going, but early signs are encouraging.  If you need to book the facility, contact Mark Moore at the club office on 01946 692211 0r email whitehavenfc@aol.com
