Whitehaven AFC Around the Club

The season is now well underway and it has been an impressive first season in the Northern League for Martin, we currently sit in 7th place in the league with a couple of games in hand on the teams above us, lets hope we can have a big push from now to the end of the season and see what happens come May.

March will see us play 9 competitive games in 3 different competitions, the first of which being against Harraby Catholic in the Cumberland County Cup quarter-final this Tuesday (2nd March 2010) with a 7:30pm kick off. So come down and show your support.

Our reserves season hasnt exactly gone to plan as they have found it difficult to adapt to life in the Premier Division of the County league, they find themselves sitting second bottom, however with alot of home games remaining they will believe they can put a run of results together which will see them stear clear of relegation.

At present there is a great deal of activity going on in and around the club. Changing rooms have been adapted to bring them up to Northern League standard, so we thank you for your patience while this work was going on.

On the playing side, the juniors have begun their start to 2010 and it is hoped you will be able to read about their matches elsewhere on this website. The ladies team have also been training hard in preparation for the second half of their season, and their performances on the field have been creditable when you consider this is their inaugural season.

Plans are also afoot to continue with the development of our ground.  We have received a Football Foundation decision on our application for floodlights and these are now in situ, and the temporary stands to seat 50 and provide covered standing for 50 have also been put in place. Added to this is the go-ahead for the new community/conference facility and changing rooms to be constructed, which we expect to be given shortly.

The All Weather Pitch continues to be attractive to users and community groups.  We hope to announce some exciting new developments in the near future which will involve other sports. Discussions are still on-going, but early signs are encouraging.  If you need to book the facility, contact Mark Moore at the club office on 01946 692211 0r email whitehavenfc@aol.com

Don't miss an evening of entertainment as Whitehaven Amateurs are holding a race night to help raise club funds. The race night will take place on Saturday 6th March 2010, and will start at approximately 7:00pm. Please come down and support your local club.
